When the bride wants to elope and the groom wants a (semi) traditional wedding, what else is there to do but compromise? For Erica and Dave, compromise came in the form of an intimate, 90-guest wedding at the waterfront Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels—a relaxed setting that reminded the couple of Erica’s family home in New England.

With our help, the DC-based couple found inspiration in the shades of the sea but with a funky, fresh twist. Think electric blue brushed linens; custom watercolor illustrations on everything from the invitations to the ceremony programs to the escort board monogram; ginger jars from the bride’s vintage collection on the reception tables and at the ceremony site; and the bride’s custom ocean blue-bodiced Modern Trousseau gown.

There was no shortage of meaningful touches either. Erica and Dave handpicked books to exchange during their first look—a book of modern love poems from him, a hiking guide from her. And perhaps the most special detail of all, Erica’s dad wrote an original song that the ceremony musicians learned for their processional. It was a day full of fun, laughter and lasting memories. A joyful, colorful and eclectic affair with a lot of personality.

Modern Meets Botanical in St. Michaels

Meghan and Sid wanted to keep things low-key and intimate for their spring nuptials at the picturesque Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels. So we got to work creating a scene that blended the waterfront setting with the bride’s vision for a modern meets botanical vibe. Enter greenery chandeliers, cool blue velvet linens, black flatware, wooden cross-back chairs, and a well-equipped cigar bar—all beneath a gorgeous sailcloth tent. Keeping with the intimate vibe, guests dined at long king tables, where black acrylic table numbers gave an added punch, as did the adorable salt and pepper bowls we sourced. No where was the weaving of setting and theme more evident than in the cake display—a stunning two-tier cake with a blue wave pattern accented by focal roses that sat on a marble stand atop a black and white striped linen. The epitome of waterfront meets modern meets botanical! Insane wind gusts prevented us from being able to leave the tent fully open—and rendered the pedestals for the ceremony flowers useless—but nothing was taking the wind out of Meghan and Sid’s sails on their wedding day! Rain-Filled Wedding at Perdue Family Farm

To say the weather did not cooperate for Chrissy and Chris Perdue’s private home wedding would be the understatement of the year! We knew storms were in the forecast in the days leading up to their celebration, but were hopeful for the best. Instead we got the worst—torrential downpours, flash floods, and tropical storm strength winds—all within an hour of the planned outdoor ceremony by the water. So we went to Plan B (because of course we had a plan B given the forecast!): moving the ceremony to the backup tent positioned closer to the house. That plan held until about 10 minutes prior to go-time when the ground became too saturated for guests to even stand on. Enter Plan C: move all the furniture in about two minutes flat and crowd 220 guests around the fireplace in the family’s home to watch the couple say “I Do.” Thankfully Chris and Chrissy were total troopers throughout this whole process, and as a reward, the skies cleared just as cocktail hour was getting underway. With drinks in hand, guests were escorted out to the sailcloth reception tent for a black tie meets coastal chic affair. Think navy tuxes, natural wood tones mixed with pops of dusty blue and white, floral chandeliers, lawn games (for when the rain broke), family-style dinner service, and—of course—stunning water views. It may have been a rocky start to the day, but it looks like smooth sailing ahead for Chris and Chrissy! See more of this wedding on Brides.com
